Mary Helen Fein - Engaged Buddhism
Engaged Buddhism is a term coined by Thich Naht Hahn in the context of the Vietnam War and the suffering it caused. Engaged Buddhism is juxtaposed with monastic, non-engaged Buddhism that recommended a retreat from the world. Engaged Buddhism can be understood as an expression of interconnectedness, and it assumes that every event – near or far, past or present is to do with us.
