The Eco Dharma Council invites you to join us for a special
Smoke Offering and Sacred Offerings Practice
with Khenpo Karma Tenkyong
5:30 - 7:30 pm
In Person Only: 710 Zion St, Nevada City, CA 95959
Because of the season and current fire conditions, our smoke offering will be done safely using incense sticks rather than an outdoor fire. Khenpo will begin by sharing a teaching on the meaning and purpose of smoke offerings—why we make them, what our intention should be, and how this ancient practice can deepen our connection with Mother Earth.
We will also explore the traditional Buddhist altar and offerings. Khenpo will explain how to set up an altar, what the offering bowls represent, and the meaning behind each offering, connecting these practices with the elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space.
This will be an interactive gathering, with practice stations where everyone can participate firsthand—learning how to arrange the offerings, understand their symbolism, and discover how to make these practices personally meaningful rather than simply ceremonial.
As part of our EcoDharma conversation, we will also begin exploring the idea of creating a children’s garden and ways Khenpo might help guide us in developing a space where children can learn about nature, interdependence, compassion, and caring for Mother Earth.
Our hope is that this gathering helps us see that making offerings is not only something we do on an altar; it is also a way of cultivating gratitude, generosity, reverence, and a deeper awareness of our relationship with Mother Earth and all living beings around us.
Dana/Donations: All dana collected will be split between Mountain Stream and Land of Bliss Meditation Center, Khenpo’s local affiliation. Participants will also have an opportunity to offer Dana directly to Khenpo and his projects.
Offerings: If you would like to bring offering substances like flowers, saffron, incense, fruit, or cookies (without eggs) please reach out to Lauren@mtstream.org.
