An Evening with Mindy Zlotnick

AN HISTORIC NARRATIVE
* SPECIAL PRESENTATION *

“I WILL NOT PASS AWAY…”
REINSTATING THE BUDDHA’S VISION OF
THE FOUR-FOLD SANGHA

The Buddha envisioned a FOUR-FOLD SANGHA
with male and female monastics and male and female laypeople
who would be able to carry on his teachings

We are pleased to welcome Mindy Zlotnick who was inspired to bring this historic narrative – the Bhikkhuni Nuns’ lineage -- to a larger audience. Her PowerPoint presentation is an overview of the establishment of the Bhikkhuni Nuns in the Buddha’s time, its demise for over 1000 years, and then its reestablishment in modern times.

Mindy had been meditating in the Theravada tradition for over 25 years, never hearing this part of the history of Buddhism.  In this presentation, she highlights a monastery in our area, the Aloka Vihara Forest Monastery, Placerville, as an example of the pioneering efforts of the women working now to reestablish the Bhikkhuni lineage.
