Mountain Stream Meditation Center supports Buddhist Meditation in the Northern California Sierra Foothills area. We have been active since 1986. We support a number of weekly sitting groups in many communities, and we hold a number of daylongs and longer retreats each year. We publish and distribute our newsletter, Dharma Stream, twice yearly to over 2,500 individuals. Our mission is to serve as a enter for the Buddhist community in the Northern California Sierra Foothills area.

Mountain Stream was founded by John M. Travis. John has been a student of vipassana meditation since 1969. His work and teaching have been important to the growth and development of Buddhism in the Northern Sierra Nevada region.

Pilgrimage to Mt. Kailash

In late September of 2008, twenty-one souls undertook the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash. The twenty-three day undertaking was planned by John Travis and Christy Tews. The trip is an arduous undertaking involving trekking out the western end of Nepal, crossing the border into Tibet, driving to Manasarowar and then trekking around Kailash.
